Childbirth is a pivotal experience in the life of everyone involved. It is not only the birth of a baby, but also the birth of new parents and in many cases the birth of a big brother or sister.
How this is experienced will be remembered forever.
Based on this understanding, Resource Birth is a practice catering to the perinatal time of life. Combining massage and somatic therapies, Continuum Movement™, consulting and communication, and birth doula services, Resource Birth supports women and families in the process of discovering and using diverse resources available to them for health and healing prenatally, in childbirth, and postpartum.
Whether a client wants to give birth in a hospital with medical interventions, have a natural homebirth, or anything in between, the quality of the experience is deeply influenced by how the mother and father were treated during the process. Was the mother spoken with throughout the process? Was she made aware of the choices available and the ramifications of each choice? Did someone explain to her and her partner the medical terminology that was used? Did she feel supported, nurtured and protected? Did she feel heard?
Rather than using methods for a specific outcome or information to steer clients toward certain choices, Jessica emphasizes communicating with her clients, exploring ideas, information, and physical experience so both the expectant parents and Jessica fully understand what will make the clients’ own best childbirth and healing experience.
Resource birth follows the belief that change and healing come about by providing patience, listening hands and ears, and by understanding how the individual’s body is behaving in its environment and why.
Jessica chose the name Resource Birth for her practice because in addition to providing services for childbirth, she believes that her work is about offering resources during a pivotal time. As a birth doula, perinatal consultant, childbirth educator and massage and somatic therapist Jessica provides not only the resources of her skills but also those of her teachers and colleagues. She supports women, couples and families in finding their internal resources, and in using the resource that is their voice. She supports and encourages people to discover the resources that exist in their lives and offers further resources that may be helpful and supportive for them in their experience(s). And most of all, Jessica believes that the body and system as a whole will not give you more than it is capable of handling in childbirth. While there may be times through a healing process and childbirth that you feel like you will be broken, Jessica will witness you and support you, offering guidance when needed, trusting that the resources you need to move through the experience are available to you. That we can Re-Source birth by giving it back to the mother and her partner, who have the ability to make informed choices, creating the experience that is best for them.
Jessica has spent many years studying and working in health and healing to understand what resources exist within the human system and its environment and how to work with these.
